This whole video did not go as well as I hoped it would, for a start the camera angles were not the ones we were supposed to do and secondly the idea for our video was a terrible plan. Then when the editing came we edited over part of our video by accident and secondly someone decided we should have a Katy Perry song in our video background.

Review of short script “Tom Tom and Goose”

Review of short script “Tom Tom and Goose”

First shot: Two shot medium shot of two people sitting on a log. The camera is directed at us from behind our backs.
Second shot: Two shot medium shot but this time the camera is in front of us pointing towards us from a sideway angle.
Third shot: Two shot long shot with the camera a distance in front of us showing our whole bodies sitting on the log talking.
Fourth shot: Two shot medium shot with the camera in front of us angled sideways at our faces. The shot is also a low angle shot.
Fifth shot: Medium shot high angle shot of us with the camera looking down at us but also rotating around us at the same time (pam shot?).
Sixth shot: Medium shot with a high camera angle with the camera pointed at our backs.
Seventh shot: Two Long shot with high camera angle looking down on us from the side.
Eighth shot: Extreme long shot two shot of us sitting on log. Camera then zooms in closer on the two people sitting on the tree.
We had to improvise with the location of our script allot because in the script we were meant to be driving through London and then we had to rob a bank and die from gun wounds from the police. So in the end we decided to have our location in the woods and just sit on a log and read out the script using cool camera techniques in the video shots we took. Me and Jack both played roles on the script and Charlie came into our group for the day because we were missing our other group member. Charlie was the camera man.
Because there were no gaps in the script where only one person was talking for a majority of time we decided that all our shots should be two shots so that the audience could see what was going on with both the characters at all time while they were making conversation with each other.
Because we changed the script to the two characters just sitting on a log talking the whole time we had to make up for that with the camera shot techniques, so we used some shots such as high and low angle shots, zoom in and out shots and panning shots which all worked really well with our script.
We had done an original film before this one but it was unfortunately filmed over by someone. I was not o bothered by this because the film we shot after looked a lot better. Things that I would have done to improve the video would be possibly more action or movement coming from the characters who were just sitting on the log because it did look rather dull and we could have used a lot more camera techniques if we had.

Red Rock West camera techniques analysed

I will now list to you what is going on in each scene from my storey boards going in sequence from scene 1-12.

1.      This scene is a close up shot of the main character driving his car along a road.

2.      This is a panning shot of the road stretching into the horizon, the road is surrounded by nothing but sand (dessert). The camera pans to the right.

3.      This shot starts with a panning long shot panning to the right showing the man drive of the road into a petrol station. When the car stops inside the petrol station the camera stops panning and turns into a still long shot directed at the main character in the car.

4.      This shot is a medium close up shot of the man when he steps out of the car.

5.      The shot is a medium close up tracking shot following the man walking from his car into the petrol station only showing his waist and above.

6.      The next shot is a high angle close up shot of a box in cabinet full of items. I get the feeling that the camera angle is giving the impression to the audience that we are looking from the main characters point of view (eyes).

7.      This shot is an extreme close shot up of the main characters face looking surprised. The shot then changes to a high angle extreme close up shot of a wallet will dollar notes sticking out of it lying on a worktop (table maybe). I get the feeling that the mans shocked expression was him seeing the money on the table. Meaning the shot of the money was probably us looking through the main characters line of sight again.

8.      The next shot is an over the shoulder medium shot with the camera looking over Nick’s (main character) shoulder as he talks to another man who is standing in front of him facing towards him/ camera.

9.      The next shot  is an extreme close up zoom shot of Nick’s car’s licence plate, the camera then zooms back out on the license plate panning to the left giving a medium close up shot of a man filling Nick’s car up with fuel.

10.  The next shot shows a medium shot of Nick facing away from the camera towards the man filling up his car with fuel. The man filling up the car with fuel has an over the shoulder log shot on him.

11.  This shot is a shot reverse shot of nick and another man making conversation (camera keeps flicking between the two characters as they make conversation).

12.  This shot is a two shot of Nick and the man who filled his car up with gas having another conversation (both people are talking to each other but this time they are both in the same shot).

Unit 22 single camera techniques

Single camera techniques: unit 22

have chosen too analyse the camera techniques for a two minute scene from scrubs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcsrnT7Tv1o
only use link if video below fails to show.

The clip starts with a long shot of the main character walking through the hospital. The camera then pans to the left following him as he runs into a hospital ward. You then get an OVS shot (over the shoulder shot) of him looking at someone lying in a bed.
The camera then faces him showing his look of shock, the camera slowly zooms in on his face turning into close-up shot.
About 3 or 4 seconds later you get an establishing shot of the man lying in the bed with all the nurses doing surgery on him, this to me looks like a POV shot( point of view shot)

After this you get a fade down shot of the man lying in the bed and slowly a fade in shot comes back showing a women dressed in a red dress next the bed where the man is no longer lying, this gives me an impression that the man is having some kind of dream.
The rest of the clip is very easy to explain as it becomes very repetitive. The camera is a medium shot of the woman, who has now started singing. The camera goes back to the man panning in on his face give a close up shot. The  woman starts walking out of the sight of the camera and as she does this the camera fades out. The next shot is an establishing shot of the man looking in the direction of something off camera, the woman then walks in to shot , this is a two shot/ medium long shot. She continues walking past the camera and as she is about walk out of the camera shot the camera does a fade out shot. I found these first 30-45 seconds of the video clip very interesting and full of camera techniques, the fade out shots in particular helped to give the viewer the impression that the man was dreaming.
One last thing I must mention is use of light, when the woman with red dress first appeared the lights were all dimmed giving the effect that the man was dreaming or having a fantasy.
